What is an AI receptionist, exactly?
An AI receptionist answers the phone when you can’t. Not a recording but a conversation: he greets the caller, asks who is calling and why, and then sends you a summary. At BeepSweep he is called BeepSweep. At the start of every call he honestly says he is AI.
What does the AI receptionist do?
BeepSweep answers the call itself when you can't. It asks for the caller's name and reason, then sends you a clear briefing. This is a separate option you switch on yourself.
Does the receptionist sound like a robot?
BeepSweep is built to sound natural, with voices chosen per language to come across as pleasant and human. You can also set the tone, from businesslike to warm.
Does the caller notice it's AI?
Yes, and that's on purpose. BeepSweep always says at the start of every call that it's an AI assistant. That's honest to the caller and in line with European AI regulation.
Can the AI receptionist book an appointment?
Yes, if you connect your Outlook calendar. BeepSweep then offers the caller free slots and books the appointment.
Does the AI receptionist know anything about my business?
Yes. You fill a knowledge base of up to 6,000 characters that BeepSweep uses during the call. You can fill it in one go by having your website read in, or question by question through an AI interview. After that you edit it as plain text. The website is read once and not refreshed automatically, so if something changes you add it yourself. If something isn’t in there, BeepSweep won’t use it. The knowledge base is included in every plan.
Which languages does it work in?
In six languages: Dutch, English, Spanish, German, French and Portuguese. That applies to the app and to the AI receptionist. You set one language yourself; the receptionist does not switch to the caller’s language automatically.
Where is my data stored?
In the Netherlands. The app and database run in Amsterdam, and your voicemails are stored encrypted with AES-256.
Are my calls used to train AI?
No. There's no training on your data. That's contractually fixed with the services we use.
Is an AI receptionist cheaper than a receptionist or an answering service?
Usually, yes. A receptionist on your payroll costs €2,500 to €3,500 a month. A human answering service charges €15 to €97 a month plus €1.79 to €4.15 per call, so your bill grows the more you are called. Standalone AI receptionists sit between €149 and €1,499 a month. BeepSweep Enterprise is €99 a month, with no per-call charges.
